Mission: The mission of The Harris School is to support the
educational and emotional development of children in Pre-K through grade
8 and their families.
Core Beliefs: We believe that all children can have purpose and
achieve success. Guided through our team approach, we believe that parents
are the primary catalyst for the students’ emotional and intellectual
development.
Vision Statement: We, at The Harris School, work cooperatively
to enhance the learning and emotional progress of our students. The staff,
teachers, family consultants and parents are committed to the process of
learning and the application of knowledge. Our goal is to guide our students
and provide them with the appropriate knowledge to excel as individuals in
the community.
Our History: The Harris School began in 1996 as a preschool,
developed after many years of hard work by several dedicated members of the
Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute and funded by donations from
generous benefactors. It was named after one of its founders, board member,
outstanding contributor, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Hunter Harris, M.D.
Today, The Harris School serves children in grades Pre K through grade 8,
who are typically average to above average intellectually, have needs that
are not being met in a traditional school setting, and are not functioning
at their full potential due to social or emotional developmental delays.
